3 Jan 06 car stuff, grade posted

I don’t know why, but I didn’t get up this morning at 10 a.m. I had my phone set to wake me up then, but I never heard it go off. Maybe it did, but since the thing was right next to my head in the bed with me, I think I’d have heard it. Kind of frustrating, since I hate sleeping late. I ended up getting up around 1 p.m., which was annoying because I was going to go with Mom to the court house to get a license plate for my Volvo, but she had already gone without me. Fortunately, she didn’t have any trouble and we have the necessary stuff to pick the Volvo up from my uncle. I sent him an email about that earlier today, so hopefully Dad and I will be able to get it tomorrow or the next day.

My grade is up! The missing CS grade that I had griped about is now posted, and I’ve emailed all the appropriate people letting them know this, including the Office of Academic Scholarships. Now I had darn well better get my scholarship money. I’m still waiting for webUK to update showing the hours that the class was worth and my adjusted GPA, but that always comes a little ways after the grade itself shows up, so I’m not worried.

Another small, car-related problem: the insurance information isn’t in my old Volvo’s glove compartment. After the wreck, I put all that stuff in Jessica’s trunk and then into my desk at school. I could’ve sworn I then put it back in the Volvo when I got it back, but maybe not. I hope it’s still in my drawer at school, since I don’t want my parents to have to deal with the hassle of obtaining another copy of that.

23 Dec 05 new skin, The Da Vinci Code so far

I just finished putting up the Winter theme and removing several of the other skins. The only ones left are Blood, Orchid, and Winter, and they’re all accessible on the skins page. I had Trin check the site in IE and she says it looks fine; I’ve checked Firefox and Opera. Let me know if the layout in your particular browser (e.g. you Safari users) looks whacked.

I slept in today till about noon, although I was woken up twice. The first time was by my car insurance company, making sure I had healed okay from my car wreck in September. I appreciate the concern, but did he have to call at 8:22? I went back to sleep after that and was woken up the second time by Todd, wanting to chat, at 11:49. I just stayed up after that and have spent the whole day doing nothing. Really. I’ve been nothing but a slug this vacation.

I stayed up late last night losing to Scott at chess and reading The Da Vinci Code. While I’m enjoying the book and find it hard to put down, it’s not because the book is well-written or has a good style to it. The content is what’s got me hooked because, hey, old Christian conspiracies apparently catch my interest. But there’s nothing very appealing about the characters or the way in which the story is told. I hate how things jump around; the excitement builds for one subplot and just when I’m interested in it, we change to a different subplot. A lot of books do this and it bugs the heck out of me. Stick with something for longer than a chapter. If you have to keep changing plots just to keep my interest, you’re doing it wrong.

As for the characters, Sophie is the one that really bugs me. Not forgiving her grandfather was stupid, especially since I haven’t found out yet what it was that caused her to break off contact with him. The way she runs around dictating what she and Langdon are going to do, without consulting or even informing him, also annoys me. And there’s Langdon being a pussy and not worrying enough about where this strange lady is taking him to bother questioning her.

I’m very excited about Christmas. I asked for a digital camera (the one I usually use is actually my dad’s) and I’m pretty sure I got it because of how my parents are acting. I was poking my mom about it the other day and you could totally tell from her face that I got something I really wanted. The two things I said I would love to have were an iPod and a camera, and I’m thinking I got the camera because it’s the one I wanted most.
