itchy shin

I mailed a money order this afternoon for The Crystal City by Orson Scott Card. Mom finally ordered it for me! I can’t wait to get it. I hope it’s nice and long.

My left shin itches.

Mom made me open a graduation gift today. She made me. The woman can’t stand it if she has a present for someone. She’s always more excited than I am. It’s really sweet. Anyway, the gift is a set of scented lotions, body washes, and scrubs along with one of those little scoochy shower poofs.

I have to study for chemistry tonight. We’re supposed to have a test tomorrow. I need to memorize some info in a table in the back of our book. I’ll post it here to help me memorize it. It always helps to write this stuff down.

My biscuits are burnin’!

I’m eating Grape Nuts and listening to Ani Difranco. I was watching Soap but my brother chased me off so he could play on his PS2.

I turned in $50 today as a deposit for the senior trip. We’re going white-water rafting and doing some other cool stuff. It’ll be $150 total but the school pays $25 for each of us, I think as a reward for doing well on state-wide testing.

I tried on my prom dress earlier to make sure it still fit me all right. I nearly popped my arms out of their sockets before I remembered, “Hey, this thing has a zipper.” Unzipping said zipper really helped with being able to get the dress on. Boy, I’m clever…

I’m going to have to get some small safety pins or break out the sewing supplies. My dress is a few inches too long, especially if I’ll spend most of the night in flip-flops (Candice says most of the girls do this because heels are hell). I do like the heels I have, but even these may be a little short for the dress. I’m thinking they are.

I was freezing just now so I went to get a blanket. I was trying to think of a way to express how cold I was and thought “my biscuits are freezing.” Sounds just slightly off, right? It did to me, at least, until I remembered the old cartoon character Yosemite Sam. He was that short guy with the red beard and bad temper that always said, “My biscuits are burnin’!”

Candice and I need a ride to prom. First, her cousin was going to take me, her, and Zack there. Her cousin is busy that night, though. Her mom can’t take us because she’ll be working, which is also why we can’t use Candice’s car. So I was going to drive. Mom doesn’t like that idea (“The traffic will be really heavy that night and you can’t drive in your prom dress!”) and Dad says he’ll think on it.

After prom, I’ll be going to Candice’s house to hang out. The day before prom is Junior/Senior Skip Day. I plan on skipping along with Candice, Chauntel, and possibly Jennifer because Chauntel is going to have a Pedicure Party. It sounds like a blast.

problem solved

Well, I figured out why my calendar was showing multiple dates for multiple entries, the lists of archives weren’t working (they were showing individual entry links instead of by month or by category), and why my recent entries list wouldn’t listen to the number of entries I wanted it to show.

I had had all of that stuff inside PHP echoes. I noticed that my recent comments list was outside of the PHP entirely because if I had left it in the PHP, I would’ve had to escape all double quotes with a \ in front of them. I have a limit of five set on the recent comments list and it was obeying that limit, unlike recent entries and such.

MT processes its tags first so I don’t need to escape quotes that are inside tags like MTEntries. However, it looked too strange having some quotes escaped and others not, so I just moved my calendar, archive lists, and recent entries list out of the PHP and it, as you can see, is working fine.

potato chips

School went all right today. Mom asked me earlier, when I first got home from jazz band practice, how my day went. “Fine” was my response, but I was thinking to myself, “It’s school. It’s the same thing every day.” And really, there’s usually nothing at school that gets me passionate enough to have a less neutral response to that question than “fine.”

I’m eating potato chips and listening to music from the Sims Makin’ Magic. I used to never like potato chips. Well, when I was a kid (ickle kid to middle school age), I liked potato chips. Then, for most of high school (i.e. – all of high school up to now) I have hated potato chips. I never ate the things. I didn’t see the appeal in them and didn’t understand how anyone could get fat off the things (not that anybody really gets fat off of just chips, I mean you’d have to do nothing but sit and eat them all the time, 24/7, but you get what I mean). For a couple of months now, though, I’ve really liked the things. I went to Candice’s house and we played Scene It (a trivia board game with a DVD that goes along with it). I had the urge to eat some Lays Masterpiece BBQ chips, so Candice and I ate the entire bag and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Maybe it’s a tribute to that first bag, but my stomach/mind particularly like BBQ flavors. Ruffles brand is my favorite.

Anyway. Not that you really care about my newly discovered adoration of potato chips, but just so you know…

The other day in second period, I was talking with my teacher and she noticed my bracelet made from hemp, seashells, and a few green beads. It’s the one my brother bought for me in Florida over his spring break. I told her I loved jewelery made with seashells. She told me she had a lot of seashell necklaces and that she would bring me some. Today, she did; she gave me three necklaces, each with a different pattern and different kinds of shells. I gave one necklace to Candice and my teacher said she’d bring Candice another necklace. This is the teacher that Candice and I go to visit whenever we want out of class. She’s our Spanish teacher and, last semester, was our English teacher. Excluding my band director, who isn’t really a teacher to us band geeks anyway, my Spanish teacher is my favorite teacher. I love that lady.

Hrothgar

I woke up this morning and the first thought that came to my head was “Hrothgar”. Hrothgar. You know, the guy from Beowulf? So why is this cat in my head? I didn’t dream about him, s’far as I know. I read parts of Beowulf for senior English earlier this year. However, I did read the shortened version yesterday. Maybe that’s it.

This morning. Lord, I’m tired. “I Am the Walrus” by the Beatles is helping to improve my mood, though. I’m eating cold, leftover potato soup. I like my soups better after they’ve spent a night in the fridge. Vegetable soup is particularly good when cold.

I wandered downstairs because I thought I heard food (I didn’t; Mom was fixing coffee, not a meal) and saw a packet of 100 pipecleaners sitting on the back of the couch. I inquired as to what they were for and Mom said I could have them (some answer…). So I took them.

…Any ideas on what to do with 100 pipecleaners?
