Three till Seven

Pet Peeves

  • lip smacking - I think I got this one from my dad, because as a child he would always fuss at me and my brother if we ate noisily. Little clicking, popping, and squishing noises when someone eats just annoy the crap out of me, especially if they’re audible because the person won’t chew with their mouth closed.
  • interrupting - I admit I do this too, I think we all do, but I don’t think I go crazy with it like some people. It drives me nuts when I’m telling a story and someone just comes in and starts talking over me. Maybe they do it because I tend to talk quietly, and they’re not observant enough to notice someone else is speaking. Or maybe they’re all just jerks. Yeah…
  • socially awkward people - I feel mean for even admitting to this one, but darn it, it’s annoying being around someone who has no social skills. They say weird or inappropriate things, talk loudly about sensitive subjects, and don’t have the extra sense that notifies them when they’re making others uncomfortable.
  • overuse and misuse of ‘like’ - I used to not even notice it, but one day I just started paying attention to when people used the word ‘like’ at least once per sentence, and now I can’t not notice it. There must be a correlation between girls with high-pitched voices and using ‘like’ frequently in speech, too, from all the nasally voiced girls I hear saying it. It just makes a person sound so valley-girl and dumb; if you’ve got to use a verbal pause, go with ‘um’ or ‘err’ or something other than ‘like’! I, like, hate that word.
