Superficial Loves
These are material possessions I love, even though they’re inconsequential in the big scheme of things. Here’s a Futurama quote to go along:
Amy #1: The Professor’s right—you are evil. And shallow!
Amy #2: I am not evil!
- lipstick - I love collecting different colors of lipstick, even though I don’t often have occasion to wear it. Even though Maddox says red lipstick makes women look like clowns, I still love the bright red shades; I feel so girly in it. I’m also a big fan of lip gloss.
- iPod - Ever since I got my iPod Shuffle, which was the first MP3 player I owned, I’ve been a big fan of listening to music everywhere. I carried that sucker wherever I went: the grocery, to and from class, while shopping, while driving, etc. Then, in early 2008, I got a Product Red 8G third-generation iPod Nano and have had a great time accessorizing it, filling it with the perfect selection of my music, and buying iPod games to play on it. I look for excuses to carry it around, the earphones clapped on my head, and I’m sure I walk with a little more bounce in my step as I rock
- Macbook - I bought my boyfriend’s Macbook from him in 2008, having previously bought his Powerbook and loved it. I’ve discovered that, given a laptop, I will use it anywhere. I feel so useful and connected when I have it with me, like if you give me a wireless Internet connection, I can solve any problem. Now I use my laptop much more than my desktop PC, and it has really given me an appreciation for OS X, coming from a Linux background. I feel like OS X is a prettier, more integrated version of Linux, since I’m able to do all my usual command-line magic on my Macbook, and it looks nicer while I’m doing it.
