everyone has a different name for these flowers

It seems like people have a different name for this flower depending on where they’re from:

It’s almost like what you call Coke/pop/soda/carbonated beverages. I grew up calling them Easter flowers while a friend in my hometown called them March lilies. That’s pretty much the same name with a slight difference. When I came to Lexington, another friend called them buttercups. I asked a friend earlier today, pointing out some of the flowers on campus, and he called them daffodils. What do you call them?
