Holy crap, the snow! Yesterday starting around 1 a.m., we started having freezing rain and snow. Getting out yesterday morning was ridiculous, even on foot. The main roads may have been clear, but the community in which I live was nothing but ice-coated roads and sidewalks; I fell on my butt like ten times just walking around outside. At one point, I managed to go up a set of long concrete steps but then started slipping around so much I worried I was going to fall, so I intentionally sat on my butt and scootched over to where I could stand up on the slightly more frictional snow-and-ice-covered grass.
This morning, a heavy snow was falling on top of the inch or more of solid ice that was already coating things. Walking around today was much easier because of the snow, but the trees didn’t fare so well: all the ice and then the snow on top of that caused lots of large branches to break off. My parents are in a more rural part of the state and they’re without electricity. My roommate’s parents have none either. All the local schools are closed as well as many others around the state. UK, stupid as it is, canceled classes before 11 a.m. yesterday as well as those after 3 p.m., but any in-between were still on. Despite that, I didn’t try to get to my 12:30 p.m. class because it was stupid dangerous to try it. Even if Jon and I had made it to campus, walking around (or rather, skating around) would have been really risky. It’s just a lawsuit waiting to happen. At least today they canceled classes entirely. I’ll bet they’ll be on tomorrow, though.
Today’s my usual day for going in to Lexmark, but I sent my manager and team lead an email saying that I couldn’t make it out of my driveway. Hopefully I can get out tomorrow for class and Friday for work.
I had to take some photos today of the winter wonderland outside; see my Ice Storm 2009 set on Flickr.

Sometimes you just have to get on the ground and slide to your destination :P
I can’t help but admire the prettiness of the snow in the photos. Everything looks so pure and refreshing! Somehow pictures make me forget about how much I dislike dealing with snow in real life.
I really wish we could have gotten some of that ice. I never thought I would say it, but I really do miss all of the snow and ice. It doesn’t even seem like winter down here!
I’m glad your okay. How is your parents back in EC? I hope good as well.
