*snort* This just made me laugh aloud:
Why do mortal women always have to fall in love with sexy, brooding vampires? Why can’t they fall for a nice yeti who will make a good husband and a solid provider?

My dad was asking me what the big deal is with vampires the other day when we were flipping through channels and found some ad for another vampire show. Beats the flip out of me; have you ever sucked on a cut finger? That stuff’s nasty! What is the appeal there? Of course, I was all about vampires myself in high school when I got into Anne Rice’s and Laurell K Hamilton’s books. I can’t seem to bring myself near the Twilight series these days, though, because it just sounds so cliché and cheesy. How many vampire romance plots are there these days? Now ’scuse me while I go make my Sim into a vampire witch (just got Apartment Life)…

ah holy shit I know.
I look at my friends giggling and just be thankful that I got over the “oh my god hot vampire” phase in middle school. I can’t wait until she looks back on this time in shame…
I think it’s periods/stages in Hollywood/the art world where something becomes a bit popular and they take advantage of it until it no longer attracts audiences. Around when Buffy came, there had been a few vampire films.
The same as now with TV shows as Lost and Heroes, where the supernatural takes place and is trendy.
Haha! I LOLed when I read the entry as well.
I’ve never been a fan of Vampire lore, and never understood the whole “ZOMG Anne Rice!!11″ phenomenon.
I guess part of the problem with vampire novels is that you need an encyclopedia to understand the terminology and the back-stories. As for Twilight, I’m ashamed to say that I love it. Do I recognize it as cheesy and poorly written? Definitely… but I couldn’t put the books down! It’s highly-engaging, watered-down vampire lore which appeals to people who aren’t your typical hardcore vampire geeks!
I agree with Regine on this one. It’s just a cycle going on. You know, just as how books nowadays revolve around rich private school girls who walk around the lawn in Jimmy Choos…
PS: That doesn’t mean I’m not a fan though. :P
