gas leaks and creme eggs

I visited my parents this weekend and nothing really exciting happened until I tried to leave. I got a little way down the road when my brother called, telling me to come back because of my brake lights. Turns out the only one working was the middle one in the rear windshield, so my dad fiddled around and discovered a blown bulb. Not a big deal, and upon replacing it, all my brake lights worked again. (From what I remember of my first electrical engineering class, does that mean the lights are wired in series so that, if one goes out, they all do? Sarah the engineer strikes again!)

However, then my dad noticed a puddle underneath my car, along with a strong gas smell—fuel leak! Now Todd had commented a while back about a gas smell around my car, but he thought it was just burning unclean because I’d recently made the downgrade from 89 to 87 octane gas. When I first got home this weekend, my dad thought my car smelled gassy, too. Well, when he noticed the small puddle, he poked around in the engine and under the car. The leak stopped, so he put everything back together, and my brother drove the car across the driveway to inspire any more potential gas leakage to come out.

Oh buddy, was there ever: I noticed a steady stream pouring out from under my car at this point, instead of the droplets from earlier. A hasty exchange of my stuff was done, and I took my brother’s car back to Lexington so that Dad could work on mine. I got an email from him last night as soon as I got back, though, saying it was fixed. Apparently, “it was leaking at the connection between the check valve and the connector for the hose going to the fuel filter.” Whatevs, so long as it’s okay. My brother’s going to be driving it till I get back home, and since he has a short commute, it’ll get some testing before I make the long haul back to Lexington in it.

On a better note, I ate my first Cadbury creme egg of the season the other day, and it was actually kind of a let down after I’d tried one of their caramel eggs a few days before. Their caramel is crazy buttery tasting and, as such, is really freakin’ good. The creme egg was darn tasty too, don’t get me wrong, I was just really impressed by their caramel. Maybe I just need to eat about fifteen more creme eggs to properly remind myself of how great they are…

  1. I told you that your break lights weren’t working the other day. Glad to see that your dad caught it too and that all’s fixed.

  2. Agh! I didn’t even see that. That’s what I get for trying to do company statement reconciliations and type at the same time.
