a gray day

Continuing last night’s theme of sludgy weather, today the university had a 2-hour delay on classes, which is the first break from a regular school day due to weather that I’ve experienced at UK. I was happy to hear the news that my first class was cancelled, so I got to reset my alarm clock and go back to sleep. The extra sleep left me with a headache that has lasted most of the day, unfortunately; that often happens to me if I change my sleeping schedule to allow for more sleep. Does anyone else have this problem? I have no idea why it happens.

Anywho, getting to class today was a real workout because I slipped and slid around trying to get anywhere. A lot of sidewalks were scraped clean, but others were not, so I scrabbled around in my rain boots trying to find purchase. The world was gray today: gray sky, dirty gray snow on the ground, rain falling to turn the snow into slush… Ugh. It really wasn’t that cold, surprisingly, though the rain made being outside unpleasant. I think it’s supposed to rain more tonight and then freeze, leaving wonderful driving conditions… Yikes.

I ended up with a sore bottom today after falling in the library. I was going down some big marble stairs, which are unfortunately devoid of treads, when my boots slipped and down I went. I grabbed hold of the railing to slow my fall, but I only fell down about three steps before landing on my butt. Of course the first thing I did after getting over my surprise was to look about sheepishly, seeing if anyone had seen me fall; nope, I was in the clear. I was happy to have fallen indoors rather than out in the slush around campus.

  1. It barely rained on my campus today. Then that little bit of moisture on the ground froze, turning the bricks into mini-ice skating rinks! It caught all of us off guard and two of my unfortunate friends fell at different spots on campus.

    Be safe!
