Yay, I just got in Java Programming from the Beginning by K.N. King, which I plan to use to help me write a Java web server for my web programming class. It came just in time, too, because the final version of the server is due Thursday morning. My impression of Java so far, and this is the first work I’ve done in it, is that it’s a wordier version of Ruby. Hopefully I’ll like it, because it’s such a popular programming language that if I had an interest in it, I think that would do me well professionally.
Yesterday, Todd and I visited a local used book store and I bought The Worthing Saga by Orson Scott Card and Everything’s Eventual by Stephen King. Not that I’ll get around to reading them soon, because I have a ton of other books that are waiting to be read; I love buying books even though I never get around to reading them all.
I learned Java 2nd year uni, and I’ve had a deep dislike for it ever since.
1) You can’t define out parameters (like the ¶meter in C++)
2) It took me 2 years to realize that it does have a programming environment other than Notepad. I hope you don’t have to debug using cmd prompt.
Good luck with the server application. I had to do that too… but somehow managed to weasel around the subject… :P
(C# FTW!)
Stephen King’s such a good author: I bet you’ll enjoy that book.
I hate java! I just can’t get the hang of classes! I’m glad I dont have to do it anymore – the whole graphics g. blah or whatever it was, its eeevil!
