Facebook applications

I have discovered that the most annoying part of using Facebook is the applications. Some of them are pretty cool in that I can show what music I’ve been listening to recently, my political interests, and other things that I want visitors to my profile to know. However, I hate the ability to tell spam other users with invitations to use whatever crappy application has caught your eye. No, I don’t want to take the Friend Quiz, I don’t want to take the ‘What color are you?’ quiz, just because I went to high school with you doesn’t mean I want you to know my ‘Sexual Personality’, and I don’t want to participate in the Pirates v. Ninjas or Vampires v. Werewolves wars. There are all these ridiculous things and I always ignore them. The problem is that I can’t just block all my friends from sending application invitations to me, or at least that I’m aware of–if you know of a way to do this, please, let me know. I hate logging into Facebook and seeing dozens of invitations to stupid applications that I have to turn down. It makes me just avoid Facebook, because it’s effing annoying.

  1. Bebo’s recently added applications, too.
I’m bombarded with ‘Rating my Friends’ and ‘Making a Baby’.
I so far haven’t found a way to block it on either facebook or bebo.

  2. This has been annoying me for a long time, too. I don’t even have any of those damned applications on my profile because they annoy the shit out of me that much. Between that and the mini feed thing that shows up in your profile every time you update a word in it, I can’t really stand facebook. Who in the hell cares about that shit anyway?

  3. Oh, I hate the ever-updating Feed as well! I can’t even blink without it being announced to the world.

But back to the applications! I especially hate the “Funwall”. Sometimes I have around 10 notifications, and they’re all “Funwall Forwards” — and I don’t even have a Funwall! Ugh.

  4. I haven’t gotten any of those invitations yet (thankfully), but I heard you could go to the application’s main page, and click the link that says “Block Application”. I guess this means you’ll have to do that for every single application you don’t want an invitation from, unfortunately. Too bad there’s no feature to disallow invitations from all applications. :(

  5. I have nothing to update my blog with! I’d rather not write about whats going on in my life in there! Seems like every time I do that, something goes wrong. Call me if you want updates :D

  6. I couldn’t agree more. Though I have a Facebook, I’m not an avid user and I sign on every few months only to find a bunch of application invitations from people I haven’t spoken to since elementary school.
