My return to the world of blogging, that is. I’ve been a bum about updating this thing while I was on holiday, but after Kathy’s persistent nagging for me to blog again, here I am. Classes start Wednesday, and I don’t want to go back. Doing the co-op program got me used to going to class for only a semester before working for a semester, so it feels too soon for another bout of classes to begin. My classes include linear algebra, an “honors” class (basically, a literature course), networking, web programming, applicable algebra, and the College of Engineering leadership course. I need to go out sometime and buy binders for all my classes; I’ll probably do that tomorrow while I’m out. I have a CD rack that I need to return to Target, and Todd has been on me to return it for a while now, since I’ve had the dern thing bagged up next to my door with its receipt since November… I kind of procrastinate about such things.
Two exciting things! I got a manicure, my first ever, yesterday with Ashlee. I’ve adjusted well to working with longer nails; I’ve found the trickiest thing to be sliding cards out of my wallet. Opening pop cans was difficult until I learned the secret of prizing up the tab with a knife first. View a photo »
The second exciting thing is that today I tried out the cake-decorating kit that Ashlee got me for Christmas. It was surprisingly easy to use the little pump, but I did learn that, if I’m going to cover the entire top of the cake in rosettes anyway, I don’t need to first slather on a smooth layer of icing. I ended up using about a can and a half of icing when normally a single can has leftover icing in it when I’m done. Anyway, it was a pretty cake, and the guys certainly enjoyed it. I went to church with Kathy for the first time this morning, dragging my sorry ass out of bed at 8:30 to do so. While the sermon was pretty standard for the Baptist churches I’ve attended before, the setting was not: they don’t have their own building yet, since it’s a new church, so they meet in a movie theater. I felt like I was at a concert whenever they sang a song, because instead of standing in front of an uncomfortable wooden pew, peering into a hymnal, I stood in front of a cushy theater seat, reading the lyrics on a big slideshow on the movie screen. They had a full band with a guitarist, singer, bassist, drummer, and keyboard player up front, along with pretty purple and orange lighting from the floor. The sound manager and slideshow runner were right in front of my aisle, too, so it really was pretty concert-like.
