pink hair

Because I’m spontaneous, yesterday when I got my hair cut, I also had the underside dyed a deep pinkish-purple.

I’ve never dyed my hair before, so you can bet I was nervous throughout all 3 hours and 45 minutes at the salon. Holy crap, I’ve never stayed at a salon so long. It took that long because the color just would not come out how I wanted it, which was for it to match the color shown in the sample chunk of hair. First my hair turned bright red-orange, then blonde, then bubblegum pink, and finally the color it is now. The ladies at Regis earned their money, though, because they kept me till I was happy with it, which turned out to be 2.5 hours after the rest of the mall had closed. The original hairdresser I had ended up calling in her mom, the manager of the salon, to bring in another hair dye that she knew would work to turn my hair pink. When I was finally done, it was 8:30 at night and the mother didn’t think it was safe for me to walk across the mall and through the parking lot to my car, so she drove me to it. She also gave me a free bottle of volumizing conditioner, saying that she had it left over from another salon she had owned, and that she couldn’t sell it at Regis. Overall, I was incredibly tickled with my experience there.

I had tried to go to Mia and Maxx initially, because that’s where I always go, but the guy that took my appointment time was just rude. I couldn’t understand him because of his overly gay-sounding accent, so when I had him clarify the time he wanted me to return, he fairly shouted it at me. I decided I didn’t need to give them business when the man seemed so rushed and gruff, so I went across the mall to Regis, where the ladies were very friendly.

I had toyed with the idea of dying my hair some crazy color before, and I figured now was a good time. I’m not going to be out in the “real world” for a few semesters yet, so I needn’t worry about shocking any old corporate bosses. I figured my parents would freak out because, honestly, they’re more protective of my hair than I am. However, Mom was cool about it, saying, “actually, it doesn’t look all that bad,” and asking what color I would suggest for her hair. :) My dad reacted with concern over the harshness of the dye chemicals, which is about what I expected, but he did admit that it was my hair.

I can’t wait to go to lunch today because Ashlee and Jessica know nothing of this, unless they saw my photos online or read this blog entry within the next hour. It’s fun surprising your friends. :)

  1. The pink colour looks really good, I think it suits you.
I’d be too afraid to dye mine some crazy colour. The only dying I’ve done is do some blonde highlights not too far from my natural colour.

  2. First I must say that I would never have dared dying my hair. Could be because I’m a guy… and also because I’m smart ;).

Honestly…. I think you look great in pink hair. As long as you’ve got some of your natural color left too.

Sadly, when I do something with my hair nobody notice it very much. But, I do, off course have very boring hair.

I hope your friends were surprised!
