I received word this morning that I won’t be getting hired at Williams-McBride because they’re looking for someone who can work more hours. I expected that result after 1) they took almost two weeks to make a decision and 2) they contacted me a few days ago to ask if I could work more than 10 hours per week. I’m not very upset about it because this saves me a bit of stress this semester, since I can continue to work in my professor’s lab on campus. The benefits of that are that I get to walk to work, and the professor is very understanding about my hours being changed around due to class, homework, and tests. They suggested I contact them again when I have a more open schedule, which I figure I’ll do for next summer, when I’ll be able to work full time.
I think I’ve triple-booked myself for this Friday. I’m supposed to help out at Senior Day, which is something UK’s College of Engineering takes part in where high school seniors come and wander around campus, doing… stuff. I’ll probably be a tour guide or something. Then Todd and I are going to dinner at my cousin’s house that evening. Then Jessica wants me to wait up with her for Midnight Madness tickets, with “Midnight Madness” being the first training session UK’s basketball team has. That should tell you how big basketball is at my school, that people are willing to get in line the night before and stay there through the night, just to get tickets to a practice session which will be held at midnight on some later date. That probably means, folks, that I’ll be spending this Friday night sleeping fitfully on a pool toy out on the sidewalk. Someone should make a derogatory joke about Kentucky and rednecks here.
I slept very well last night because I have new sheets. I stopped by Macy’s yesterday and found a sheet set that was originally $105 (who pays that for sheets??) on clearance for $39, then I used one of the bazillion coupons Macy’s sends me and got it for $25. I spent a good amount of time yesterday evening cleaning my apartment, and changing my bed sheets was just one of my accomplishments. I also washed dishes, vacuumed, put away my laundry, took out the trash… and combatted the roaches. Jess was with me and she got a kick out of this: I cleaned under my sink, which seems to be the main base for the cockroaches that have infested my apartment, and anytime I saw a roach, I sucked it up in my vacuum. It was terribly disgusting when I had to dump the vacuum contents outside, because roaches ran everywhere. I felt like Elmer Fudd: kill da woaches, kill da woaches…

I would have flipped out if multiple roaches started running amok. Ahh, now I have that creepy crawly feeling everywhere. :(
Now all those roaches are going to find their way back into your apartment!
The little bastards had better not! BTW, Melissa, you need to update your URL when you post comments–you’re not at Versteckt Sein anymore!
Eww that must suck have roaches! I have never seen one and hope that I never do! My sister has an ant infestation, which isn’t anywhere near as bad as roaches. Good job with cleaning your apartment though, I know when I clean this place well I feel good about myself :)
Oh! Thanks for teling me. I never think to update URLs in these comment things since it all shows up automatically.
