anxiety update, games, and symposium

Thanks to those of you who commented on my last entry, since it was on a more personal and serious note. I’m feeling much better and went back today for another visit with the doctor. She agrees that going the more natural route with food is a good idea, and also pointed out that people who are more self-centered tend to have problems with anxiety and depression, so she thought it was great that I helped Jess assemble bunk beds and have helped Kathy with her yard work, that sort of thing.

Tonight I’ll be hanging out with Todd, Eric, and Kelly; I think we’re going to watch a movie, and I hope we’re going to watch a movie, because darn it, the idea of playing board games (our other option) does not excite me. It seems whenever ‘board games’ is suggested, the person always means some trivia game which I’ll suck at. I know jack squat about history, and I’m not much better when it comes to pop culture either. Give me some Monopoly or Risk, or Mille Bournes if it’s a card game, and I’ll be happy. I remember as a kid, my dad, brother, and I used to play Mille Bournes and I loved it. I don’t think I’ve really played the game since I was a kid, either; I should remedy that.

Tomorrow there’s a big symposium thing at Lexmark. About eighty of their student employees have made big tri-fold displays to present, and all employees will be invited to come see what exactly students get up to in their co-ops or internships. Kathy and I did one together and, I must say, our hard work paid off: ours looks slick. All the participants were given white cardboard displays but Kathy insisted we have black, so we went out ourselves and got one. We also bought special red paper (Lexmark’s colors are black and red) to use for mattes on which our white informational paper was placed. We used the red paper for headings as well and just printed black text on it. When we checked out our competition today, we saw a bunch of bland white displays with white paper, too much text crammed on slides, and very few graphics. Kathy and I also made sure to measure out everything, so our stuff is centered and aligned down to the millimeter, while the other boards were more haphazard. I’m quite tickled with ours and am glad we put in the extra effort, because it came out looking much better than the others.

  1. Wow – haven’t visited you in a long time.
My boyfriend and I play board-games every now and again. i always forget about them – but actually it’s much nicer at times than to watch TV (well – not so much routine)

It’s nice when hard work pays off. Great feeling :)
