My discrete math professor emailed us saying he wasn’t happy with the scores on our last test, so we will have a final. However, he said those with A’s in the class won’t be allowed to take the final, which makes me wonder if he’ll adjust the grades accordingly when us non-A folks take it. I have a B, which is annoying because I did so well on the test before this one, but he told us another little perk: if we make a higher grade on the final than we have in the class, the final grade will replace our class grade. So, hypothetically, if someone were failing the class but got an A on the final, they’d have an A in the class. Thus, I’m definitely taking the final, even though we’re allowed to skip it if we’re happy with our class grade. It’d be nice to get another A in a 3-hour course so as to help my GPA. I’m not going to enjoy the stress associated with taking a fourth final (the ones for my algorithms, biology, and microcomputer organization classes aren’t optional), but as Todd suggested, I’m not going to kill myself over it, either. Since I have a pretty good grade in the class as it is and the final is optional, I’m going to study for it still, but I’m not going to stress myself out unnecessarily.
Ain’t crap happening in my life that you guys would care to read about. This week is Dead Week, that is, the last week of classes before finals. I worked my last hours as a professor’s research assistant yesterday and will be concentrating the rest of this week on studying for my finals. I’ve got it all written out in my schedule book which class I’m studying for each night. Studying is tiresome but it’s not particularly frustrating since the material has all been covered before. One source of stress that I do have, though, is that darn program for my algorithms class. That lecture is today and we’re supposed to get help with it, but we’ll see how much that’ll really help. I’m dubious because it’s going to be our professor and a grad student wandering around a whole class of confused students, so there won’t be much one-on-one explaining going on, I figure.
Hm, that somehow sounds weird with the grades. Weird because that’s not the way we have it here I guess.
My finals start July 11th. I should start studying now, I have six exams and most of them concerning engineering bleh :(
This is the first time I’ve seen the word “dubious” in a sentence. I figured it probably meant something (on Jacky’s site) but never looked it up. And after reading your sentence I had to translate it because I didn’t understand.. and that’s what it means? ahaaa… I learn new things every day.. haha ;)
What a good deal!
Last year (I’m in HS so yeah, but still haha) we didn’t have to be at some of our finals if we had tested advanced during the state standardized tests. It was nice :D
Normally I’d skip that final if I already had a healthy B, but a chance of getting an instant A? That’s made of equal parts awesome and win. Sounds like my kind of prof!
Oh gosh, I’d hate to have so many tests. But to think, for the job I want in the future, I’ll have to.
Good luck with the finals! You’ll defiantly deserve A’s in all of them, I bet!
