I have to add a comment to your section about Flash support, MP3 and restricted drivers. You are saying that it is easy to get this up and running with the help of some forums.
This is a bit outdated - with the newest Ubuntu, released the 19th of April 2007, all this is done the plug-n-play automatic way. Basically:

Flash - Open Firefox and navigate to a page that needs Flash. Answer "Install missing plug-in: Macromedia Flash" and you're done.

Restricted drivers - Install Ubuntu and login. Click "Yes - enable restricted drivers" in the dialogue that pops up after installation if such drivers are needed.

MP3 - Open an MP3-file. Ubuntu will see that you need MP3-support and ask if you want to install this automatically. Click Yes.

Keep spreading the word! Cheers

I would just like to tell you how much I enjoyed looking at your fatherś web site.
He sounds like myself in the old days, Timex/Sinclair and all. I was going to leave him a email but he does not seem to have a comment page. I would just like to say to him bravo.
Please wish him well for me.

[...] Sarah, at 3till7.net, talks about the ease of using Ubuntu. She mentions the simplicity of installing by using the LiveCD and how Synaptic makes installing applications very easy. Sarah says that average people like her mom and dormmates have used Ubuntu successfully and can find help quickly on the Ubuntu Forums and wiki.
Limak: Oh yeah! I've used that before, and have read about its improvements over apt-get, but always forget about it. Good point.

I would propose you to use aptitude instead of apt-get. You can find explanasion why it is better there:

I have to agree with you. While I don't use Linux on my computer, my boyfriend uses it on both of his. I've never had a problem using it.

People must understand that Linux is a kernel, part of an operating system;not a complete operating environment in the sense that Windows is a complete operating environment. While obviously the core Linux Kernel isn't fragmented, its community is. These days, the differences between distributions are narrowing.
Two significant milestones were reached that promise to continue to move the Linux desktop ahead in 2007. Linspire, Inc. announced today plans to standardize software installation across Linux distributions by expanding its popular CNR ("Click 'N Run") digital download and software management service to support Debian, Fedora, OpenSUSE, and Ubuntu Linux distributions this year. The 2nd: Linspire 6/Freespire2 will start using Ubuntu 7.04 as their baseline.
The problem with GNU/Linux is that the disconnect between geeks and the non-technical end user is still immense and sad to say some geeks like it that way and will actually defend their isolation as something moral.
