layouts and surjective functions

I want to design a new layout that’s more graphics-intensive and overall prettier than the last one I put up, but I take forever to design a theme and tweak it just right, and I don’t have that kind of time. I might this weekend, especially if it’s ass-cold outside and I don’t want to be out and about. It feels like I do all my best work for, well, work. “Work” currently being for Dr. Jaromczyk: I’m working on a layout for a fungal database site of his. It’s going well, though I need to find an image of DNA to incorporate into the header. I found some software that may be useful for generating just that, linked off of bioinformatics.org (how fitting). He’s supposed to be looking into obtaining copies of Photoshop and Illustrator for me to use on his Mac. GIMP is great, but I love the vector capabilities of Illustrator.

I’ve a test in discrete math coming up tomorrow. I started studying last night and fortunately he didn’t give us any textbook assignment this week, just a programming assignment over matrices, which we haven’t covered yet. The test will be open book, open note, but somehow I think it’ll still be tricky. I feel like I’ve had to learn a new language with this course. For example: Discrete math That’s from the professor’s class notes, and is read, “If all b’s belong to B and there exists some a belonging to A, where f(a) = b, then the function f is surjective.” Fun stuff, har har har.

  1. Oh man, those notes remind me of all the notes I had in my calc and other higher math courses in college. It’s scary to see a whole board filled up with that shiz.

  2. This guy, unfortunately, does not do boards. At least then he might be provoked to do examples along with us, explaining each step he takes. No, instead he comes in with a PDF file that he displays on the overhead, and just talks through these notes.
