petit fours and shell swapping

My logic circuits class starts at 10, but I was up at 7 so I’m just hanging around the ol’ apartment. Jess came over last night to hang out and eat some linguine, and it struck me to make some petit fours using my new mold. They turned out really well, but I’m glad I had Jess there because I didn’t know what I was getting into. Melting the chocolate bars and butter together in a double boiler required constant stirring, so I had her do that while I mixed together other ingredients. It turned out to be a very thick batter, and then I had to make 4 sets of them (= 64 little cakes). We had to alternate stirring the batter since our arms got tired from it being so thick. I was planning on picking Todd up from his night class but I was in the middle of baking when he called, so the poor dear had to walk back in the cold. At least he’s almost over his sickness, and I did feed him petit fours for his trouble. After they were all done, I took some over in a tin to the guys. Eric and Brent took some and I left the rest in Todd’s apartment for later. I plan on taking more to Kathy today in logic circuits.

The finished petit fours.

Todd and I almost got to see Dr. Zoidberg switch shells last night, but he changed his mind at the last minute. He had gotten a new shell all arranged next to him and had gotten most of the way out of the old one, when he decided against it and went back into the old one. Guess he got cold feet. It was pretty neat for the time he was out, though, because we’d never seen a hermit crab out of his shell.
