apartment dilemma

I currently spend very little time at my apartment because I’m always over at Todd’s. I’m over at his place so much for several reasons:

  1. My computer + Internet connection;
  2. Huge TV + cable;
  3. People are always over here, whereas I live in a building with a bunch of old folks that I don’t know anyway;
  4. Exercise bike;
  5. Todd’s over here.

Hence, I feel bad for having this nice apartment for which I pay $425/mo. + utilities when I don’t get much use out of it. I also dislike my landlady for a few reasons:

  1. She is slow to fix problems. Before I moved in, there were cracks in several of the windows which she assured me would be fixed. It’s been 9 months and they haven’t been fixed. It took several months to get the glassless, door handleless screen door replaced.
  2. She seems dishonest or at least very forgetful/flakey. When I first signed the lease, she told me that pets were allowed, so long as they were small. When I got my miniature dachshund, she got all upset, saying how she couldn’t have any more dogs.
  3. She’s too nosy. She actually goes through the Herbies looking for stuff that should’ve been put in the Rosies to be recycled, and makes statements as to how she knows which person put that stuff in there.

I just met with a guy about an apartment for $400/mo. and I’m to meet with a lady tomorrow about a $415/mo. apartment. The apartments I looked at today seemed all right. They’re studio apartments and much smaller than my current place, but they’re within walking distance to campus, which is what I need. They’re also next door neighbors to Todd’s apartment. Haha, the guy I met with today said the lady who runs the $415 apartment building is nutty as a fruitcake. That may just be him trying to sell his apartments over hers, but who knows. I certainly know what it’s like to have a nutty, forgetful landlady. I’m going to visit with Todd’s landlord either today or tomorrow as well, to see if he has any openings, since Todd pays $350/mo. for his apartment.
