chess and StairMasters

Another day, another lost game of chess; sigh. Scott and I have gotten into the habit of playing a game of chess a night via Yahoo! Games since neither of us have an actual chess set here. I haven’t won yet! I thought he was exaggerating when he initially told me that he was a good player, because I remember being decent myself, but maybe I’ve just never had real competition and so I’m actually not a good player at all. Darn.

I got up at 7 this morning to study for my 10:30 calculus final; I think it went really well. There were only three problems; one dealing with finding the local minimum, maximum, and saddle point of a function, another where I had to setup and compute a triple integral to find a volume, and for the last I had to determine whether F(x, y) was conservative or not, then compute the integral of F·dr. Obviously it was conservative (well, okay, probably not obviously to anyone not in the class, but obvious to anyone who has been there and paid attention) or we couldn’t have computed the integral in the specified manner. So anywho, that was pretty straightforward. I expect to get an A in the class, which will be awesome since it’s a 4-hour course.

Chris called me shortly afterwards and the first words out of his mouth were, “Talk to me.” I just had to laugh at him for a moment before telling him that I didn’t think it was bad. We got the same answers on the first problem and he says he’s sure he’s right, so that’s nice to know, since I thought I was leaving something out on that one. On the second problem, he got 1/12 while I got 1/24, but I’m sure if either of us is right the other will get partial credit. For the third problem, however, he said that he got something completely different from me. I’m pretty confident about that one, though, so I’m not worried.

I’ve been studying for my CS final, which is Wednesday morning. I hope to do well on it and I figure I’ll be okay since I never have much trouble in that class. I still need to study, though, since it’ll be comprehensive and I’m sure I’ve forgotten stuff.

I’m feeling better about physics for some reason. I guess because it just seems much easier in comparison with EE, which is really the only bear of a final I’ll have, I’m sure. Stupid design of logic circuits class…

I have to go in to Lexmark tomorrow morning for a drug screening, which means I have to get up early on the day I don’t have a final… blech. I probably would’ve gotten up around 10 anyway, just so I wouldn’t feel like a slug, but now I have to get up around 8 which is going to suck a big butt. What might suck even more is that I might have to pay for the drug screening: Ashlee told me that when she worked at Amazon, she had to take a saliva test and had to pay $35 for the privilege. I can just see me having to pay to get my own piss checked out, and being ever so pleased with it…

I went to the Johnson Center today to work out. I used to go all the time last year when I lived on South Campus, since it was nearby, but I’ve been a real slacker this time around; the first time I went this semester was only last week. Anyway, both times I just used a treadmill and a StairMaster. Actually, I think that’s a specific brand, but I’m sure you know what type of machine I’m talking about, so that’s fine. I noticed that my heartrate gets higher faster on the StairMaster as opposed to when I speed walk and then jog on the treadmill, which kind of surprised me, since I get out of breath on the treadmill but don’t really on the StairMaster. Maybe the machine’s just whacked.

Have a laugh: domicile trailblazing UserFriendly comic.
