Here are two lists of CD’s that shouldn’t be used in a Windows computer due to Sony’s copy protection software that is on them.

  1. Actually, the reason for not using those CDs in an MS Windows PC is because of the vulnerabilities created by the copy protection software on the CDs. Sure it’s a subtle difference, but there are people who are not concerned about copy protection measures and thus they might ignore the warning as stated.

Those who ignore warnings about the vulnerabilities of MS Windows get 0wn3d and provide more spam relays, more keyloggers, more zombies with which the bad guys screw up the Internet for everyone else. The really pathetic part is that 9 in 10 of these users believe they are safe while in reality 8 in 10 are infected with various malware. Those numbers come from a study by AOL and the National Cyber Security Alliance.

Sophos says there were 16,000 new viruses added to their database for 2005. At the same time Sophos was reporting about record numbers of *new* viruses, they were praising Microsoft for SP2. Naturally, all anti-virus companies depend ultimately on people never wising up to how lousy MS products are, just as Sony depended on the ability to secretly insert code into the core of MS Windows.

The fact that MS will sell out its consumer units (called customers in ancient history) to provide conveniences and controls to just about anyone else doesn’t seem to register in the minds of those consumer units.
