Have you tried a new page template, and using that for a page to look/act differently than any other pages?
It's something I've found to be very effective.

I used to hand code everything as well. I didn't think that I'd be able to use WP effectively.

I'm so glad that I made the change, it really has made my life so much easier!

Right now, my blog is run by Blogger and I do everything else content wise by myself. Of course, after discovering includes and some other helpful tools over the years, this has become easier. I understand the positives of using a CMS for an entire site but I think one major drawback to it is that they don't seem to have an easy way to convert your site. I have hundreds of pages of content I could not easily convert to WordPress so it's not a change I see myself making.

If you want a particular page to be treated differently in WP, you can just create a separate template file for it and make that particular page use that template file. It's not the best option but at least there is one.

Crap, you guys must have some decision-altering thing going on here, because I'm (finally) giving in and deciding to use WordPress (with the Pages thing) for my site at least until Elantari Bloggage is done.

Now, to sit and wait while wget fetches every last piece of idiocy off my site... *plays with thumbs*

I love using Wordpress as a CMS. I thought it would be hard to get everything up and running with it; but I was pleasently surprised at the ease of use. I used it before to run my blog... but I did the pages the old-fashioned way. I recently converted my whole site to using Wordpress and I love it!

It always seemed like a hassle when I used MT to create new layouts, but I find it a lot more convenient with WordPress because everything is a PHP function. Since I use PHP in my pages anyway, this is no problem for me and I don't mind it.

I agree; one little annoyance for me is having to fight with the templating system, which is why all my CMS/blog scripts have either been homebrew or simple stuff like CuteNews, since I'm a loser that can't be assed to make my styles work with template systems...
