I just thought I’d give a heads up, but as far as personal sites go, this is one of the better ones that I have been through. It was very difficult for me to find any real fault with this site content-wise. The rest of the review will most likely consist of minor details and oddities that I think deserve a mention.
The main page is pretty spiffy. There isn’t much for me to pick at except for the lack of a welcome message. There is some semblance of a welcome message, but it doesn’t really tell me what your site is about. Have a line or two mentioning this is your personal domain/site/etc. That way, visitors know where they’re at.
Noir. I like the setup of this. It provides a short overview and allows people the option of viewing more if they so choose. In Semi-Autobiography, however, I found myself wondering what Wicca is. Sure, you mentioned that it was a religion, but that doesn’t really tell me anything about it. Is it similar to Buddhism? Hindu? Is it another branch of Christianity? A sentence or two explaining what makes Wiccan different from other religions. (As a side note, Jazz Jack Rabbit rocks.)
Under Aesthetically Inclined, I felt the way you listed out the books was a bit odd. It felt too spaced out, and it doesn’t match the previous format that you use to list out your favorite movies and musicians. My suggestion is to get rid of the breaks between each title to scrunch the whole list down a little. Another reason what I thought the book section was odd was the fact that there is nothing in the paragraph above it that leads to the list. Have a short sentence similar to the previous paragraphs, something like “Some of my favorites are”
For Guilty by Association, the sentences that describe your friends break at very odd points. After taking a look at your coding, I found that you used tables to split up the paragraphs. A much easier way to create the same effect you have here is to use <img src="friend.jpg" align="left"> followed by whatever text you would like to add. Setting align="left" makes all the text appear to the left of the picture, while setting it align="right" makes the picture appear on the right side of the text. (The top header of this review uses this bit of you need extra reference.) It makes changing layouts a little easier and gets rid of those odd breaks in each paragraph. Oh, and random note, but the image of Candice is broken.
For Dreams, Poetry and Prose, I think it would be a nice touch if you integrated the different pieces in with the layout. Instead of having everything open in this plain gray page, make it look like the other pages. It just looks better. As a minor note, I like the way you organized the writings.
For both Photos and Digital Art, the borders are unsightly. They don’t match the layout, they’re bright blue, and there’s really no need to have that border there. I suggest taking out the borders by making style="border:none;". Also, I suggest placing these in tables to make them load in a more orderly fashion as well as adding the width=40 height=40 in the image tags. This makes things more organized. Separating the different thumbnail sizes would also make the page look more organized.
And before I forget, please please please add target="_blank" in the link tags. This insures that the images load in new windows, which is a must. I don’t know about other people, but I like to be able to click on an image, have that image load while giving me the option to browse the rest of the site at the same time.
A little detail you could add to both pages is instead of writing the name of each file in the alt tags, you could include comments about each piece, what you like/disliked about it, how long it take you to make it, etc. etc. It’s not necessary, but it’s certainly more interesting than seeing “02.jpg”.
For Projects, I would again suggest adding target="_blank" in the link tags. It gives people the option of going to your other sites while still browsing through this site.
For Random, while there’s quite a bit of things to go through, there’s no clear order of how these are arranged. I’d suggest organizing the links by type, i.e. pictures, codes/tutorials, fun writings, etc. Again, it would be a nice touch if you change the text from .txt to look the same as the layout. Might I add, the bits of codes that you do include aren’t extremely helpful. For example, the LiveJournal codes. You just list out the code and an example. How can people know what this is unless you add some commentary in it as well? Take a little more time with the codes and tutorials. Write out a little more about how to use these. Your visitors will appreciate the added help.
Under Wallpaper, I suggest adding in target="_blank" Also, you have a Link Me section under 3till7.net as well as a separate Link Me section. I suggest getting rid of one since you really don’t need both.
Yer.
Attention to Detail
Grammar and spelling were excellent, only one broken image that I know of and links do work. Yer.
Pointless Ending
So, this was a hard site to review. Not only because there’s so little wrong with it, but also because there was a quite a bit to go through. I didn’t find a whole that I would ask to improve on and the bits that I did find were already mentioned above. I wish you continued success with the site and apologize if my review wasn’t too helpful. Good luck, au revoir, yadda yadda bladeblah.
