Georgia Evolution Stickers Ordered Removed

“A federal judge Thursday ordered a suburban Atlanta school system to remove stickers from its high school biology textbooks that call evolution ‘a theory, not a fact,’ saying the disclaimers are an unconstitutional endorsement of religion.”

That annoys me. I think the stickers should have been left on the books. If a new book could be found that stated something to the effect of the following and the school could afford to purchase copies, that would be acceptable, also: “The theory of evolution is just that: a theory. It should not be taken as fact. There are other alternative explanations of the origin of all things. Many religions seek to explain such ideas, for example.”

The religious bit wouldn’t have to be in there, but it does supply the reader with more information about other things that try to explain what evolution tries to explain. I’m leery of any specific religion being mentioned as I think that would show too much bias; why mention that one particular religion has an explanation for the origin of all things when there are many more that have their own explanations as well? But it shouldn’t be purported that the theory of evolution is not a theory. That’s ludicrous.

This, however, is hilarious.

“The president likes to give people nicknames. He has called Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, ‘Pootie-Poot,’ while aide Karen Hughes gets ‘High Prophet.’”
