first day of class

I just returned from running some errands. I found out today that the workbook I purchased for Spanish isn’t required, so I returned it and got my $33 back.

Today went well. I was about twenty minutes early for Spanish just because I like being early to a class I’ve never been to before. The professor, however, was late to arrive. When she did come in, she was out of breath and, in a beleaguered tone, explained that “they” had been sending her all around campus. I think I’m going to like her.

Calculus II was all right, although I found out to my dismay that I won’t be allowed to use my TI-89. I emailed my mom and am having her mail me my old TI-83 Plus. I don’t know why he doesn’t allow them; my last professor didn’t have a problem with them. A TI-83 will certainly be better than no calculator at all, though, which was the rule in Jessica’s Calc. II class last semester. We went over finding the area between curves but this was really just review from last semester.

CS 215 was fine, although it was just lab today. We were given what looked to be a simple lab involving the debugging of a program but I got hung up when I first began it because it seemed like whatever I tried didn’t work. I knew what I was doing was correct, though, so I got suspicious. We do use, after all, a crappy editor in crappy Windows. I tried changing the text that was being outputted but, after compiling and running, the text didn’t change. I exited the program, reopened the file, and then it began to listen to me. I finished the lab and got out early.

I had some Spanish homework that was beyond easy. I read two pages in the textbook and then broke up about fifteen words based upon their syllables. That’s it. I checked through the syllabus and it looks like all the assignments are going to be like that. Even our compositions only have to be 1.5 pages, double-spaced and typed. I remember last semester, one homework assignment in Spanish would take about two hours to do.

I plan to read some in my economics textbook tonight and maybe do some practice calculus problems to refresh my memory.
