free use of 500 patents

How nifty is this?:

IBM Statement of Non-Assertion of Named Patents Against OSS

“We are pledging the free use of 500 of our U.S. patents, as well as all counterparts of these patents issued in other countries, in the development, distribution, and use of open source software. We believe that the open source community has been at the forefront of innovation and we are taking this action to encourage additional innovation for open platforms.”

In other news, I just returned from selling two books and returning two others (in all the hubbub of visiting three bookstores yesterday, I accidentally bought two copies of two different textbooks) as well as finding some of my classrooms in preparation for classes starting tomorrow. I’ll have Spanish, Calculus II, and my CS 215 lab. I’m looking forward to my economics class on Thursday, as well as honors.

  1. This comment doesn’t relate to your post at all, but I just thought that I would say that I like how you have this thing set up to help control the spam, but it was a complete pain in the neck to get my TypeKey account set up. But still, I like it. Catch ya later.
