I just deleted about eighty spam comments from here; lovely.
Well, I’m back at home. I made it here at about 6:30 yesterday evening. My mom let me have The Sims 2 as an early Yule gift yesterday. Happy as a lark, I booted into Windows 98 and proceeded to install, or attempt to install, the game. I got to choose which language I wanted to do the install in and that’s it. My screen went blue and I got some kind of CD drive error; it wanted me to put in a disc with serial number 234XJU%IO@somethingcrazy. I hit enter and it went on. O_o I managed to get 47% of the game installed, going through several other blue screens, before it finally wouldn’t go any further. I aborted and told Dad my problem.
He thought the problem was that I was using my DVD drive instead of just a plain CDROM drive because the DVD drive takes a bit to get the disc up to speed and, as he put it, Windows is too stupid to give it time. When he told me that, I wanted to get a hold of a plain CDROM drive and try it with that but he suggested we try installing the game on Windows 2000. He found two hard drives with W2K on them but neither would boot. He went to put it on a different, 20G HD while I attempted to install the game on Windows 95. I didn’t figure it would work as the game box said nothing earlier than 98, but that’s what Maxis said about The Sims Makin’ Magic and it runs just fine on 95. Anywho, that gave me an error about a missing .dll file so I went back into Linux and fiddled around with other things for a while.
Dad came out of the office later with three old CDROM drives. The first one I tried worked just fine; I got the game installed and running. That was sometime late last night; I’ve been playing it off and on (usually “on”) ever since.
I received a Yule gift from Trin yesterday: the movie “Run Lola Run” on DVD and the new Megaherz album to which I keep listening while at my computer.
Things I need to accomplish:
- burn Matt’s second CD
- mail:
— Trin’s gifts
— Matt’s CD’s
— everyone’s Christmas cards
- attach the CDROM drive in my computer with something other than its own cables
- put the case back on my computer
- wash my UK Engineering sweatshirt so I can wear it on Saturday to my grandmother’s
I just checked my grades online again but the only new one that has been posted is for CS 100: A. Nuts, but I hate waiting, especially about anything related to school.

Dork! (with regards to grades, specifically, as there are many such reasons one could call you a dork)
Sarah, in case you didn’t know, grades don’t have to be turned into the Regostrar until Monday at 5, so i suspect that grades won’t be up until sometime on Tuesday.
