Jessica’s having a jewellery party, to which I’m going, tomorrow at her aunt’s house. Today, I was supposed to go over to said house and help Jess tidy up in preparation for tomorrow but three things combined to cause a problem: I left about ten minutes later than I should have, I took a long way around in getting to her aunt’s house because I got lost, and traffic was hell because of 1) a wreck, 2) it was rush hour, and 3) there’s a home football game tomorrow. By the time I pulled into her aunt’s driveway, I was forty minutes late and no one was there. Grumbling to myself, I got back on the road. Lo and behold, I ended up behind Jessica’s car in a turning lane.
After honking my horn, the ho noticed me and we were able to converse with various gestures and mad arm waving while waiting for the light to change. I followed her to the parking lot of a Joe’s Crab Shack where she explained that she thought I had forgotten to come so she went on. No big deal since we decided to go get dinner and see a movie together. We dumped her car in a campus parking lot and I drove us to Rafferty’s. Had a lovely dinner before buying tickets for the 10:10p showing of Saw. It was only 7:50p then so we cruised around the area for a bit, checking out nearby stores. In Barnes & Noble, I ogled Brave New World but didn’t want to pay $13 for it so I bought a Far Side collection for $6 instead. Not exactly equivalent reading material but I’m sure I’ll enjoy Larson’s work anyway.
Saw. Wow, what a film. It kept me surprised and jumping throughout its entirety, although the latter doesn’t really say anything since I jump at everything, but it was a very scary movie. Lots of gore which usually doesn’t bother me but there were a couple of scenes (think barbed wire and hacksaws) that made my stomach wonky. The ending was a big surprise that I didn’t expect at all. It wasn’t a bad ending, really, just not typical. I never knew who to suspect either. Well, actually, the exact opposite: Jess and I speculated throughout the whole thing, being sure of ourselves each time we’d say, “Oh, it’s him! It’s the crazy guy!” “No, it’s the partner!” “No, it’s the doctor!” but each of our guesses proved incorrect. Overall, I think it was a good horror flik but I don’t want to see it again for a while, if ever, because it was so unsettling.
When heading back to campus, the realization struck us that I would have to walk back from my car to my dorm alone after I dropped Jess off. Neither of us were happy with this but then she had the bright idea to call Steve and make him walk back with me. A perfect plan except that, when I called him, he was out at a friend’s. I dropped Jess off at her dorm and then parked in a parking garage a little way from my building. The garage was well-lit and I joined a group of students on my walk back so it wasn’t too bad.
And now I’m quite tired. I’m going to finish chugging down this bottle of water and then hit the sack.
