death certificate before graduation

I’m filing an eMPN for a loan for college. I cracked up at this part while reading through the legal shiz:

“Discharge (having your loan forgiven). We will discharge (forgive) your loan if:
* You die, and the Direct Loan Servicing Center receives an original or certified copy of your death certificate. In exceptional circumstances, we may discharge your loan based on other reliable documentation of your death.”

I went to tell Dad about it. Mom was in the other room and only caught part of our conversation.

Me – I will not have to pay back my loan if I die. But that’s only if I send them an official copy of my death certificate.
Dad – Oh yeah. You be sure to do that.
Mom, from the kitchen – They’ll give you one of those before you graduate.
–silence and wide eyes from Dad and I, then raucous laughter–
Mom – I take it I’m missing something.
Dad – Yes, you are.

I went to explain to her that we weren’t talking about whatever she thought we were talking about. Jeez.
